Use the mutation tools by player task
The official Mitosis description confirms 28 mutations and says they can fuse into mixes. The useful player question is not simply “which color is rare?” A ball can carry a value mutation, one or more traits, a special interaction, and a whole-ball payout. Read the interface fields attached to the ball before deciding whether to split it, protect it, combine it, or sell it.

Mutation Combinations
Read VALUE and TRAITS together, compare PAYS, and recognize documented mixes without treating example numbers as permanent formulas.
These pages distinguish official system facts from community-captured details. “28 mutations” and “fuse them into mixes” come from the creator’s description. Names, labels, effects, odds, and example payouts are update-sensitive and are marked as community reported unless independently visible in an official source.
Read VALUE, TRAITS, and PAYS
VALUE identifies properties connected to earnings. TRAITS describe behavior or special handling. PAYS is the displayed result for the whole ball. When one ball carries several entries, do not multiply every visible component number and assume the result. Read the ball’s own PAYS line.
A community-captured eight-property example contains three VALUE entries and five TRAITS. That does not establish eight as a universal fusion limit. It only describes that captured ball. Likewise, a five-property example proves that several properties can coexist, not that every five-property combination has the same payout.
Hover over or select the ball so the complete tooltip remains visible. If the interface offers YOUR BEST BALL in MUTATIONS, use it to compare the component list with the ball on the board. Record the exact label and the view where it appears; collection values and live-ball payouts can describe different things.
Choose what to do with a new mutation
First identify whether the new property changes value, behavior, or risk. A higher payout can be attractive, but a risky or unstable behavior may change whether you continue splitting that ball. A trait with a modest direct payout can still protect the board or improve a specific goal.
Second, inspect the board around the ball. Fusion depends on balls occupying the same production space, so a valuable parent can change when it meets another mutated ball. If you are testing a combination, keep the tooltip record before the merge and compare it with the result afterward.
Third, decide whether your current objective is collection, money, fusion, or a challenge. A collection goal favors preserving a new discovery long enough to register it. A money goal favors reading the current PAYS result. A fusion goal favors controlled observation. A challenge may make reliable earnings more important than experimentation because SELL attempts are limited.
Handle Rotten before it spreads
Rotten is a named special state in the current community index. Captured walkthroughs report that untreated Rotten balls can pay nothing and can produce more Rotten balls when split. That makes it a board-management warning rather than a cosmetic label.
Before splitting a Rotten ball, inspect whether you have a counter. Community captures describe White Cell as curing an adjacent Rotten ball on split, Vampire as being able to remove Rotten balls, and the Antibody card as changing Rotten payout and spread behavior. Those interactions are version-sensitive; confirm the tooltip wording in your live server before relying on them.
If no counter is visible, avoid repeatedly splitting the affected branch merely because the cooldown is ready. Compare the risk to your current goal. During an ordinary run, cleaning or selling around it may protect the rest of the batch. During a challenge, check whether the rule and remaining tries leave room for a low-value sale.
Understand discovery conditions
Splitting creates opportunities for new mutations. Current walkthrough captures also connect some discoveries with event windows, cards, skills, and existing properties. The important distinction is between a general mutation opportunity and a guaranteed result. A displayed “1 in N” readout is a probability-style label, not a promise that the mutation appears on the Nth split.
Weather can change the best action. Eclipse and other mutation-focused events may make repeated splitting more attractive, while Gold Rush favors a timely sale. Meteor Shower can overlap another timer. Follow the event actually shown on your interface and keep its end time separate from the mutation tooltip.
Cards and Skill Tree nodes can also influence the route. Read their current description rather than assuming a boost applies to every mutation type. A mutation-likelihood increase, rare-mutation bonus, and named-event tendency are different effects.

Effects require current in-game confirmationThe full mutations list keeps one card per name and leaves unsupported fields unset. It does not claim that a visual accessory belongs to a mutation, and it keeps Blood Moon the mutation separate from Blood Moon the event.
Fusion without false recipes
Current walkthrough captures show adjacent mutated balls merging and a fused result carrying multiple properties. When a mutated ball splits, its offspring can retain its mutation information. Use these behaviors to observe fusion, but do not assume that dragging, a separate crafting menu, a paid catalyst, or a fixed success chance exists unless the live interface shows it.
A reliable fusion record includes both parent tooltips, the board state immediately before the merge, the result tooltip, its VALUE list, TRAITS list, PAYS, and any warning such as Unstable. A screenshot of only the final appearance is not enough because accessories and event lighting can change how a ball looks.
The fusion guide gives a controlled sequence. The combinations page lists community-documented examples such as Vampire Toxic and several named two-property mixes, with the date and limitations visible.
Collection and progression links
The official badge catalog includes Mutant, Fusion, Mutation Dex, and Omni-Tosis for this universe. Those names support the existence of collection milestones, but their empty descriptions do not prove exact requirements. Read the live achievement panel for the condition and progress.
Mutation work connects to the rest of the game. Use the money guide when choosing between continued splitting and selling, the cards list when a card can change mutation or Rotten behavior, and the events hub when a timed condition changes your priority.
Source note, checked October 20, 2026: the official experience description confirms 28 mutations and fusion into mixes. The official badge catalog confirms mutation-related achievement names. Names and detailed interactions here are community reported from current interface captures and remain subject to live version checks.
Frequently asked questions
Are all 28 mutation effects verified by the developer?
No. The total of 28 is official. The current names and detailed behaviors come from community-captured interfaces unless a page says otherwise.
Is Blood Moon a mutation or an event?
Both names appear in different contexts. The mutation is a ball property; the event is a server or environment state named in the official description. Read the interface heading before applying advice.
Should I multiply individual VALUE numbers?
Use the whole ball’s displayed PAYS result. Component labels and collection values do not necessarily form a simple multiplication formula.
What should I do with a Rotten ball?
Pause before splitting it, inspect available counters, and read the live tooltip. White Cell, Vampire, and Antibody interactions are community reported and should be confirmed on the current server.
